Coach Kewell officially introduced as Hanoi FC's new manager

On October 9, 2025, Hanoi FC officially introduced Coach Harry Kewell, marking a pivotal moment in the club’s long-term growth plan.

The launch event for Coach Harry Kewell was attended by Ms. Gillian Bird, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam; Mr. Đỗ Vinh Quang, Vice Chairman of T&T Group’s Board and Chairman of Hanoi FC; representatives from Hanoi FC players, the club’s fan association, and numerous journalists and media personnel.

In his speech at the event, Mr. Đỗ Vinh Quang said: "The year 2025 commemorates the 20th anniversary of Hanoi FC’s founding. With Coach Harry Kewell’s presence, we hope the club will develop methodically and achieve the goal of becoming a leading force in Asian football over the next two decades."

Mr. Quang also disclosed: "Approaching a high-caliber coach like Harry Kewell was challenging, and the capital club spent considerable time negotiating and exchanging ideas before securing his agreement. Coach Kewell’s sole objective upon arriving in Hanoi is to win alongside the team."

It is reported that the initial negotiations between Hanoi FC and Coach Kewell were conducted through online video calls, and only after all agreements were finalized did the former Australian football star come to Hanoi to complete the final contract signing.

At the launch press conference, Coach Kewell confirmed he had thoroughly studied Hanoi FC and expressed his wish to develop a style of play that is both effective and aesthetically pleasing for the capital’s team, stating, "At Hanoi FC, they not only aspire for achievements but also have identity and pride. That excites me greatly to accept the opportunity to work and lead the team in Vietnam."

Regarding his football philosophy, Coach Kewell said: "My football philosophy depends on the quality of the players I have and how we collaborate daily.

I am a coach who constantly seeks to adapt and do everything possible to fulfill the objectives I set. My experience coaching teams in the English Premier League, Japan, and Scotland enables me to seize every moment, learn, and play attractive football with the best possible results."

Coach Kewell is the third head coach of Hanoi FC this season. After parting ways with Coach Makoto Teguramori due to unsatisfactory results in the 2025/26 V-League, Hanoi FC appointed Technical Director Yusuke Adachi as interim coach, and now Coach Kewell officially assumes the role of head coach.

The most notable achievement in Coach Kewell’s managerial career was leading Yokohama F. Marinos to the final of the AFC Champions League (now AFC Champions League Elite) in the 2023/24 season, which was a major factor motivating Hanoi FC to sign him.

Hanoi FC is the most historically successful club in the V-League with six titles, but in recent years its standing has declined significantly due to player losses and management challenges, especially frequent coaching changes involving various coaches from Asia and Europe.

With his distinguished playing career and extensive top-level experience, Coach Kewell is expected to help Hanoi FC open a new chapter in the club’s history, particularly in the 2025/26 season.
