Real Madrid is in a hurry to see the return of their two main defenders, Carvajal and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The first El Clasico of the season is approaching quickly, and Real Madrid is considered the favorite with the home advantage at Santiago Bernabeu. However, coach Xabi Alonso is still struggling with defensive issues, especially at right-back, where both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dani Carvajal have recently suffered injuries.
According to Mundo Deportivo, both Trent and Carvajal are entering the final stages of their recovery, aiming to be available for the big clash against Barcelona. This is very encouraging news, as the absence of these two quality right-backs has forced Real to rotate their lineup in recent matches.
During Trent and Carvajal’s absence, Federico Valverde and Raul Asencio have been temporarily assigned to the right flank. Although both have tried hard, lacking a true full-back has limited Real’s ability to build play and attack down the wings.
Trent suffered a hamstring injury in the match against Marseille in mid-September, with an expected recovery time of 6–8 weeks. However, his rehabilitation is progressing faster than expected. Sources say the English defender is “looking very good” and might return as early as the games against Getafe or Juventus, which come before the El Clasico.
Meanwhile, Carvajal was injured in the Madrid derby less than two weeks ago. Initially, he was expected to need 3–4 weeks to recover, but the Spanish defender is working hard to come back sooner. Although it is still uncertain if he will start against Barca, Real’s internal staff remain optimistic as Carvajal has begun light training with the ball.
The simultaneous return of Trent and Carvajal will give Xabi Alonso more tactical options, especially in controlling the game and attacking from both wings, which is one of Real Madrid’s strengths. With Barcelona also in good form, the comeback of this defensive duo could become a “secret weapon” helping Real gain the upper hand in the upcoming El Clasico.
If there are no last-minute changes, Real Madrid is expected to welcome at least one of these players back just before the big match, which is fantastic news for the madridistas ahead of the showdown with their biggest rival.
