Right after the kickoff, Vietnam took the initiative to attack and quickly gained the advantage. In the 10th minute, from a right-wing cross, Nguyen Tien Linh controlled the ball smoothly and fired a diagonal shot that beat goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong, opening the score 1 - 0. Just two minutes later, Tien Linh had another chance to double the lead but was denied by the opposing goalkeeper's excellent reflexes.

A surprise happened in the 17th minute when Nepal seized a rare opportunity to equalize. From a free kick on the left side, Sanish Shrestha jumped high to head the ball close-range, leaving Dang Van Lam no chance to save.

After conceding, Vietnam pushed their line up and fully controlled the game. In the 26th minute, Pham Tuan Hai put the ball into Nepal’s net, but the goal was disallowed due to offside. Despite continuous pressure, coach Kim Sang-sik’s players faced many challenges against the opponent’s dense defense.

In the final added minute of the first half, Nepal was reduced to 10 men after midfielder Laken Limbu received a direct red card for a foul on Nguyen Hai Long. Although Vietnam was awarded a favorable free kick, Hai Long failed to convert it. The first half ended 1 - 1, with Vietnam holding 71% possession, nine shots, and five on target.

In the second half, with the advantage of an extra player and support from nearly 8,600 fans at Binh Duong Stadium, the game continued to favor Vietnam. However, Nepal’s defense remained resilient during the first half of the second half. Vietnam’s efforts were rewarded in the 67th minute when Xuan Manh capitalized on a poorly punched ball by the opposing goalkeeper to score close-range, increasing the lead to 2 - 1.

Just five minutes later, Van Vi scored the third goal from a Hoang Duc assist after goalkeeper Chemjong failed to catch the ball, and the defender was quick to tap in the rebound.

Vietnam continued to apply strong pressure on Nepal until the final minutes. Thanh Nhan had an opportunity to score in the 90+3rd minute, but the goal was disallowed due to offside.

At the end of the match, Vietnam secured all three points in the first leg against Nepal.

According to the schedule, at 7:30 PM on October 14th, Vietnam will face Nepal again at Thong Nhat Stadium, playing as the away team.
