The Sun reports that if Manchester United succeed in their turnaround this season and qualify for the Champions League next season, captain Bruno Fernandes is prepared to refuse the high-paying offers from the Saudi Professional League once more and stay at Old Trafford.

The 31-year-old Fernandes has declined offers from Saudi clubs several times over the last two years, including this summer from Al Hilal, Al Nassr, and Al Ittihad. It is believed that after the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico, the United captain might reconsider and move to the Middle East for financial reasons.
However, sources insist that Fernandes feels he still has unfinished business at Manchester United. He fully supports Ruben Amorim’s revival project and believes he still has a future at the Theatre of Dreams. Fernandes is confident that despite the team’s worst-ever Premier League start, finishing in the top four or five and returning to the Champions League remains possible.
Currently, Manchester United sit in 10th place, but they are only 4 points behind the top four and 6 points off the summit. Some optimistic fans even dare to dream of a title challenge! Fernandes renewed his contract with United last year, which runs until 2027, with the club holding an option to extend for another year.
Fernandes is about to make his 300th appearance for Manchester United. In September’s 2-1 Premier League win over Chelsea, he scored his 100th goal for the club. He is one of only 19 players to have scored over 100 goals for the Red Devils, having played 298 matches, netted 100 goals, and provided 86 assists.

The BBC reported that Fernandes said he is fully committed to Manchester United’s cause and determined to do everything possible to help the club achieve a brighter future. Moreover, if the club insists on selling him—rumored to want £60 million—Fernandes would prefer a move to another major European league.
Sources close to Fernandes completely reject recent claims that the Portuguese stalwart plans to leave Manchester United after next summer’s World Cup and accept a Saudi offer. Transfer expert Ben Jacobs revealed that although Fernandes disagrees with Amorim’s insistence on deploying him deeper in a 3-4-3 midfield role, this does not mean there is conflict between them. Their relationship remains very close, just differing professional views.
Jacobs explained, “On a personal level, I don’t think there is any real issue between the player and coach; there are some professional discussions, which can actually be beneficial. Clearly, a player like Fernandes is driving unity within Manchester United, and from what I know, he gets along very well with Amorim. But does he prefer a deeper or more advanced position? Obviously, it’s the latter!”
Not only is Fernandes seen as a protector of Amorim at Manchester United, but Amorim also actively pushes for the club to keep Fernandes. This summer, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS were open to selling Fernandes, but Amorim firmly demanded the captain remain. As long as Amorim manages Manchester United, this stance will not change.

Since joining Manchester United, Fernandes has been a double-edged sword. When he performs well and the team wins, people focus on his impressive goals and assists. However, when the Red Devils struggle, his mistakes and frustrations—like losing possession and complaining—draw extra criticism, such as missing two penalties this season. Whether Manchester United should keep or sell Fernandes remains widely debated, with neither club nor player wanting to be the first to initiate a breakup.
