Vietnamese-Russian midfielder Vadim Nguyen swiftly left a mark in his debut game for U23 Vietnam.
Late on October 9, the U23 Vietnam team played their first friendly match ahead of their training camp in the UAE against U23 Qatar. Ultimately, U23 Vietnam lost 0-1 due to a set-piece goal from the opponents.
Although the result was not satisfactory, U23 Vietnam’s performance showed many positive signs in terms of teamwork and fighting spirit. Notably, the newcomer from Russia, Vadim Nguyen, managed to impress in his national team debut.
Specifically, coach Dinh Hong Vinh brought Vadim Nguyen onto the field in the second half alongside Van Thuan and Long Vu. Just minutes after entering, the 2005-born midfielder delivered a precise through ball to Van Thuan, who broke through to face the goalkeeper. However, the opposing defenders quickly retreated to block the chance.
This marks a promising start for Vadim Nguyen in a completely new role. After a few days of training in Vietnam, he has earned high praise from the coaching staff and teammates. Midfielder Van Truong shared: "Personally, I find Vadim quite skillful, good at dribbling, and possessing great potential.” Wearing the SHB Da Nang club jersey, the 2005-born player has also been given opportunities to play, appearing 5 times since the start of the season.
Returning to the match, this was an opportunity for the coaching team to experiment and evaluate the squad, especially with eight key players currently participating in the National Team competing in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Additionally, it was a chance for players with fewer appearances to showcase their skills and gain international experience.
On October 13, U23 Vietnam and U23 Qatar will face off again at 7:00 PM local time (10:00 PM Vietnam time) before concluding their valuable training camp.
