Shock: A coach worse than Amorim recommended to lead MU

Paul Scholes surprised many by publicly endorsing a Premier League manager as Ruben Amorim’s successor at Manchester United, despite the fact that this coach is underperforming compared to Amorim this season.

Ruben Amorim is under heavy pressure at Old Trafford following a streak of inconsistent results. Although Sir Jim Ratcliffe has confirmed he will give him more time to build the team according to a three-year plan, the statistics remain disappointing: only 19 wins in 50 matches and a win rate below 30%.

On the program The Overlap, Paul Scholes attracted attention by stating: “Eddie Howe, Eddie Howe. I’m not sure about his assistant [Jason Tindall], but definitely Eddie Howe.” The former MU legend believes that this coach’s modern working style and ability to revive a struggling squad suit Manchester United better than Ruben Amorim. “He understands players, knows how to improve them, which is what United needs,” Scholes asserted.

However, Scholes’ nomination sparked intense debate because Eddie Howe’s team, Newcastle United, currently ranks 11th in the Premier League standings, one place below Manchester United. After 7 rounds, Newcastle has 9 points with 2 wins, 3 draws, and 2 losses, while the “Red Devils” are 10th with 10 points. The public feels Scholes is biased by endorsing a coach with worse results than Amorim, who is trying to revive Manchester United.

Nevertheless, Scholes remains firm in his opinion. He argues that this coach has proven his ability at Newcastle by taking the team from relegation zone to Champions League qualification and winning the Carabao Cup, and he emphasizes: “Eddie Howe has shown he can manage a big club. I think he was born to be Manchester United’s coach.”

Scholes’ viewpoint contrasts with Roy Keane and Gary Neville, who support a strong, disciplined coach modelled after Diego Simeone. Meanwhile, Scholes favors a more approachable style focused on player development, fitting for young talents like Kobbie Mainoo and Hojlund.

Amorim is still trying to improve the situation, but failing to secure two consecutive wins is adding more pressure. Sir Jim Ratcliffe continues to call for patience, but if results do not improve, calls for a coaching change will undoubtedly grow louder.
