Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly endorsed head coach Rúben Amolin this week, stating he would be given three years to prove himself. However, a British body language expert accused him of lying during the interview, saying the three-year claim is untrue. Amolin himself seems to reject this notion, predicting he will be dismissed if the team fails to secure consistent victories.

Body language expert Imbar Honigman noted that many subtle gestures by Ratcliffe indicated he was speaking falsely. While discussing Amolin’s future, Ratcliffe crossed his arms over his chest, but when mentioning the coach’s responsibilities, he waved his arms. "Crossed arms is a defensive posture, usually an unconscious escape when facing the toughest questions," Honigman explained.
A more telling gesture was Ratcliffe covering his biceps with his hand while speaking, a self-soothing action typically linked to dishonesty. Additionally, he blinked frequently, another subconscious behavior when forced to lie. Honigman added, "Some of his nonverbal cues appeared very direct and decisive, especially when he didn’t cross his arms but made chopping motions with both hands, indicating he has a clear plan. However, in many instances, his behavior revealed nervousness, even giving the impression he wanted to hide the truth."
Although Ratcliffe claims there is a three-year rebuilding period, any defeat could quickly reignite dismissal rumors around Amolin. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner remains a top candidate for the Manchester United job and recently won the Premier League’s official September Manager of the Month award.
Glasner also addressed the rumors about coaching Manchester United this week, neither confirming nor denying them. The 51-year-old Austrian coach’s team recently lost to Everton, ending a club-record 19-match unbeaten streak, but this did not stop him from receiving Austria’s Coach of the Year award this week.
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner responded to speculation linking him to Manchester United, giving a noncommittal answer. The 51-year-old Austrian’s side recently suffered defeat to Everton, ending a historic 19-game unbeaten run, yet he still earned the Austrian annual Best Coach accolade this week.

At the awards ceremony, Glasner was asked about Manchester United, stating he does not pay attention to outside rumors and focuses on Crystal Palace. "As I said, win or lose, I try to avoid being affected by rumors, partly for self-protection. Years ago, I developed the habit of living in the moment and enjoying the present. A 19-match unbeaten run is definitely better than 19 matches without a win; it makes morning training atmospheres better and everything easier."
Glasner’s contract expires at the end of this season, and if he does not renew, Manchester United is considered a possible next destination. However, Glasner reportedly prefers to coach Bayern Munich and openly admits his ambitions, even while at Crystal Palace.
Glasner said, "My ambition hasn’t diminished at all, nor have my demands. I still get frustrated when we lose, just like now. Even though this was the first defeat in six months, I still feel like one of the biggest failures in the world, and I remain angry about it."
Ratcliffe made his commitment to Amolin’s future after the team defeated Sunderland, a win that clearly eased pressure on the coach. But former Manchester United player Gary Neville insists Amolin has not escaped trouble yet and the team needs a winning streak.
"That was a game Manchester United had to win, so I don’t think it’s enough to let Amolin off the hook," Neville said. "There have been too many losses and the record is very poor... So I don’t think anyone at Manchester United should be celebrating one win. However, they will probably feel relieved because winning allows them to breathe a little during the international break and relax."

Neville added, "Manchester United occasionally wins matches, but that is far from sufficient. I think it’s ridiculous that some people are complacent just because they beat Sunderland at home. Before the match, there were doubts about whether Manchester United could even defeat a newly promoted team, which itself is a problem."
It is reported that Manchester United is reluctant to change managers hastily because they currently cannot find a replacement that satisfies Ratcliffe. However, one coach is very eager to take over immediately — Barcelona legend Xavi. The Spaniard is currently unemployed and has even planned his coaching staff, hoping to invite Scholes and Roy Keane back to Manchester United. Unfortunately, Ratcliffe does not favor Xavi.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mike Brown said, "There are rumors that Xavi wants to become Manchester United’s coach. For an unemployed coach, wanting to lead Manchester United is not surprising. I’m sure he’s closely watching Amolin’s situation, and if the Red Devils’ coaching position becomes vacant, he will definitely compete for it. But the big challenge for Manchester United’s management is that they can no longer afford mistakes. There are several rumored candidates, and they must ensure whoever they choose is capable of doing the job."
Statistics show that since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, Manchester United has spent over £70 million dismissing successive managers, and if Amolin is sacked, that figure will approach the £100 million mark!
Brown commented, "Xavi, Southgate, Glasner, and Iraola are all excellent candidates. Manchester United wants to make sure they find the best fit, whoever that may be. Many coaches have shown interest in this opportunity, which is not surprising, but that doesn’t mean they will all be among the strongest contenders."

In the search for Manchester United’s potential new manager, having Premier League coaching experience is considered a valuable advantage, helping the new coach reverse the team’s decline, although it is not an absolute requirement.
