Amid a dip in form and speculation about his future, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has officially responded to rumors about a potential move to Saudi Arabia next year, explaining why he rejected the Gulf region’s offer last summer.

Speaking ahead of the World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland, he said: “I did not refuse the offer from Saudi Arabia because of the World Cup. That was never on my mind. I want to stay at Manchester United, and the club also wants me to stay. It’s as simple as that.”

During the summer 2025 transfer window, Fernandes received enticing offers from two Saudi Pro League giants, Al Hilal and Al Ittihad. However, the Portuguese star chose to remain at Old Trafford despite the enormous salary offered. Still, shortly after the season began, rumors resurfaced about a possible move after the 2026 World Cup.

SunSport sources completely deny the possibility of Fernandes leaving Manchester United, affirming that the 31-year-old player remains committed to the long-term project under coach Ruben Amorim. Nevertheless, during the latest press conference while on international duty with Portugal, Fernandes himself spoke out to clarify all speculation.

Although he confirmed his happiness at Old Trafford, Fernandes also admitted that no one can predict the future.

“I can’t imagine that because no one has discussed it with me. I prefer to enjoy the present, and right now the most important thing is wearing the national team jersey.

I’m proud to play for Portugal, and I don’t even know if I’ll play this Saturday, let alone talk about leaving Manchester United. I’m happy here. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have stayed,” he shared.

Bruno Fernandes is going through the toughest start to a season since joining Man Utd in 2020. Coach Amorim has positioned him deeper than usual to support newcomers Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, a change that has somewhat reduced his ability to make decisive impacts in the final third.

Additionally, the Portuguese midfielder disappointed by missing two consecutive penalties, forcing him to admit: “I need to learn more and train harder to avoid making the same mistakes.”
