Transfermarkt website anticipates that Vietnam's national team will make its first-ever appearance at the World Cup soon.
The official fanpage of Transfermarkt – the player transfer valuation site – has updated the current squad value of the Vietnam national team to 4.93 million Euros. Transfermarkt stated: "With a population of 102 million and still growing, Vietnam continues to knock on history's door. Will the Golden Stars finally make their World Cup debut soon?"
The transfer value of the Vietnam national team has dropped significantly compared to before due to coach Kim Sang Sik’s youth policy. Many young players from the U23 level have been called up, some of whom are not yet valued on Transfermarkt’s transfer market. Meanwhile, big stars like Filip Nguyễn, Quang Hải, and Xuân Sơn are absent.
At present, Vietnam has no chance to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. However, the "Golden Dragon" is aiming to qualify for the World Cup between 2034 and 2045. With the expansion of the number of teams participating in the World Cup, Vietnam’s chances will also increase.
Previously, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoàng Đạo Cương signed Decision No. 2368/QĐ-BVHTTDL approving the Vietnam Football Development Plan until 2030, with orientation toward 2045. Notably, it includes the goal of qualifying for the men's World Cup.
In the first phase until 2030, with the SEA Games as a target, the men's football team aims to win medals at the 2025 SEA Games; gold medals at the 2027 and 2029 SEA Games; the women's football team targets gold medals at the 2025, 2027, and 2029 SEA Games.
For the Olympics and FIFA World Cups 2030 and 2034, the men's football team aims to reach the third qualifying round of the 2030 World Cup and qualify for the 2034 World Cup; to secure at least one Olympic participation in 2028 or 2032.
The Vietnam Football Development Plan until 2030, with orientation to 2045, is divided into two phases. In phase 2, for the SEA Games, the men's football team aims to maintain a top position in Southeast Asia; win gold medals at the SEA Games; and strive to qualify for the World Cup by 2045.
