Coach Kim Sang Sik to replace Vietnam national team goalkeeper in the rematch against Nepal?

Trung Kiên or Văn Việt could be entrusted with the important responsibility of replacing Đặng Văn Lâm in the upcoming Vietnam vs. Nepal rematch.

In the first leg, Đặng Văn Lâm still failed to convince Coach Kim Sang Sik. Although he wasn’t overly busy and made some safe plays, he appeared unsettled during dangerous moments created by the opposition. Most notably, at the 54th minute, Văn Lâm made a poor pass that nearly caused his team to concede another goal. By the end of the match, Sofascore rated Văn Lâm as the lowest scorer on the team (6.4 points).

This is understandable since Văn Lâm has not played or trained with the Vietnam national team for over a year. After the match, Coach Kim Sang Sik commented that one game is not enough to fully assess the Ninh Bình FC goalkeeper’s form: "Before the national team camp, Văn Lâm performed very well at his club. But today, it’s hard to evaluate because Nepal didn’t take many dangerous shots.” Nevertheless, the Korean coach is likely to rotate the goalkeeper position in the upcoming rematch.

Currently, Coach Kim Sang Sik still has two young goalkeepers eager for chances to prove themselves: Trung Kiên and Văn Việt. The 2003-born goalkeeper from HAGL is highly anticipated by experts and fans alike for the rematch on October 14. Leading up to these matches, Trung Kiên has shown impressive form with the Vietnam U23 team (winning the U23 Southeast Asia Championship, keeping clean sheets in the U23 Asian qualifiers), along with outstanding performances for HAGL club.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Nguyễn Văn Việt is also performing well for Thể Công Viettel club, maintaining a 6-match unbeaten streak and conceding only 3 goals up to round 6.

After the first leg, Coach Kim Sang Sik has formed an overall evaluation of each player’s performance. Fans are eagerly awaiting more breakthrough changes from the Vietnam national team in the second leg, as Coach Kim gives chances to young newcomers.
