Xuân Son brings great news to the Vietnam national team as he has just officially returned to play after nearly 10 months.
On the evening of October 11, Nam Định Club played a friendly match against PVF CAND Youth at Thiên Trường Stadium during the V-League break for the national team’s training camp. Notably, Xuân Son took to the field for the first time after almost 10 months sidelined due to injury.
Although he only played in the final minutes, this is very encouraging news for both Nam Định Club and the Vietnam national team. Recently, Xuân Son has intensified his training, participated in the club’s competitive drills, and focused on shooting practice. However, his recent appearance on the field was still quite unexpected.
The biggest question fans have now is when Xuân Son will rejoin the Vietnam national team. On November 19, Vietnam will play their 4th match in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers away against Laos. Theoretically, Xuân Son could be back with the national team in about a month.
However, it is almost certain that Xuân Son will not be ready by then. The naturalized striker has only played 5 minutes in a practice match and still needs to be cautious in his comeback. He also needs to rebuild his fitness after a long period without competitive games.
Therefore, the most reasonable time for Xuân Son to rejoin the Vietnam national team would be March 2026 when the "Golden Dragon" faces Malaysia in a decisive match. This timeframe allows him enough time to regain peak fitness and ball control after 10 months off. Calling him up in November is not feasible.
Remember that Xuân Son is also not registered by Nam Định Club for the V-League, AFC Champions League Two, and the ASEAN Club Championship. The forward, born in 1997, can only officially return in the second half of the season. Although his comeback is great news, Xuân Son must be very careful to avoid any new issues.
