The 32-year-old Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is prepared to forego the generous £500,000 weekly salary offered by Saudi Arabia to remain with Manchester United. The England international is in the final year of his contract, with Saudi clubs making approaches while the Red Devils have already begun renewal talks with him.

Under Ten Hag’s management, Maguire was nearly sold to West Ham United, with a £30 million transfer fee agreed upon, but the deal fell through due to disagreements over wage compensation, so he stayed at Manchester United. However, Maguire later redeemed himself multiple times under Ten Hag, proving his worth again.
Although Ruben Amorim may not guarantee Maguire a starting role—he has started only twice in the Premier League this season—Amorim values Maguire’s leadership qualities and has named him one of six core players managing the dressing room, alongside Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Mazraoui, Lisandro Martinez, and Tom Heaton.
Saudi Arabia has offered Maguire an astonishing tax-free weekly salary of £500,000. Reports say both Riyadh Victory, where Ronaldo plays, and Dammam Cooperation have shown interest through his agent. Nevertheless, the British Daily Mirror states that Maguire plans to decline the high salary and dedicate his future to Manchester United, provided the club offers an acceptable contract.
It is said that Maguire still hopes to return to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, believing that moving to play in Saudi Arabia would cost him that chance. Of course, this is not necessarily absolute, as England striker Ivan Toney’s move to Saudi Arabia has not prevented his selection for the “Three Lions.”

Manchester United is considering the length of Maguire’s contract extension. According to The Sun, Maguire understands that this next contract is likely to be the last significant one of his career, so he must ensure the terms are fair. In initial talks with United’s management, Maguire expressed willingness to renew but hopes his weekly wage will not be reduced, or at least not drastically.
Since joining Manchester United in 2019 for a record £80 million transfer fee for a defender, Maguire’s weekly wage has been £190,000. Due to United missing out on Champions League qualification this season, his salary has been cut to £140,000 per week. Maguire has held initial negotiations with United’s director in charge, Matt Hargreaves, and more discussions are expected in the coming weeks.
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated: “Manchester United is negotiating an extension with Maguire, whose contract expires next June. Recently, the club held face-to-face talks with his agent team, and further discussions will continue. United is pleased with Maguire’s contributions and leadership qualities.”
However, Romano noted that Maguire’s terms will need adjustment for an agreement to be reached. “Manchester United is very satisfied with Maguire, both on and off the pitch, including his leadership role,” Romano added. “Maguire is happy at United and eager to stay, but his salary package must be revised; it can’t be the same as his previous contracts. Therefore, if they can agree on contract specifics and financial details, Maguire has a strong chance to remain at United and sign a new deal.”

Romano revealed that there are still differences between Manchester United and Maguire, with his wage demands exceeding what Sir Jim Ratcliffe is willing to accept. “If they can’t reach an agreement, they will part ways next summer. But the current goal is to keep negotiating; a meeting has already taken place, and more updates will come in the next days or weeks. We will closely follow developments. It’s certain that Manchester United is actively handling this. If Maguire agrees to a pay cut, the new contract should be signed soon.”
