Brazil makes a surprising decision regarding coach Ancelotti

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is set to renew Carlo Ancelotti's contract despite the results at the 2026 World Cup, affirming their complete trust in the Italian strategist.

Carlo Ancelotti took charge of the Brazil national team in May after leaving Real Madrid. Under his guidance, the Selecao is gradually regaining consistent form with three wins, one draw, and one loss. The team officially qualified for the 2026 World Cup by finishing fifth in the qualifiers with 28 points, allowing the CBF to confidently implement their long-term plans.

According to Globo Esporte, the CBF is planning to finalize Ancelotti’s contract extension within the next few months, ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Notably, this new agreement will not depend on Brazil’s performance in the upcoming tournament. This decision reflects the federation’s absolute trust in the Italian coach, who has stabilized the Selecao after several coaching changes in recent years.

Sources within the CBF reveal that President Samir Xaud and the executive team—including Technical Director Gustavo Feijo and CEO Rodrigo Caetano—are reviewing plans to ensure Ancelotti remains head coach at least until the end of 2030. “The goal is to build long-term stability, not to let the team’s future be dictated by a single tournament,” a CBF official said.

Carlo Ancelotti has also expressed his desire to continue working with Brazilian football. He believes the Selecao’s rebuilding project is on the right track, especially after strong performances in recent friendlies. In the match against South Korea, Brazil secured a convincing 5-0 victory—marking the start of a lineup experiment that the 65-year-old coach regards as “the foundation for the 2026 World Cup.”

Previously, Ancelotti’s appointment was initiated by former president Ednaldo Rodrigues, with support from agent Diego Fernandes. After Rodrigues stepped down, there was speculation about a coaching change, but new president Samir Xaud confirmed a stable approach:

“Ancelotti brings the professionalism and strength that Brazilian football needs. We cannot let the team’s future be decided by a single tournament, even the World Cup.”

If the new contract is signed on schedule, Carlo Ancelotti will become the first foreign coach in history to lead Brazil in two consecutive World Cups—a rare milestone in the history of Samba football.

The CBF believes maintaining stability on the coaching bench is key to building a new golden generation for Brazil. Despite upcoming challenges, Selecao fans can rest assured that the “Ancelotti era” will continue uninterrupted, regardless of the 2026 World Cup results.
