On the afternoon of October 13, at Go Dau Stadium, the Vietnam U17 women's team will kick off their campaign against Guam U17 women in Group D of the 2026 AFC U17 Women's qualifiers. This opening match holds great significance for Coach Okiyama Masahiko and his squad on their journey to secure a spot in the 2026 Asian Championship finals.
Before the tournament, the Vietnam U17 women's team prepared thoroughly with a two-week training camp in Germany and fitness and tactical training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. Many players in the squad previously participated in the 2024 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship, giving Coach Okiyama more options and stability in their playing style. Early arrival in Ho Chi Minh City allowed the team to acclimate to the field, weather, and mentally prepare in advance.
On the other side, Guam's U17 women's team arrived in Vietnam with a spirit of learning and strong desire to improve. Before departure, Coach Chyna Ramirez's team played two friendlies: a 0-0 draw against Beach Hut FC and a 0-6 loss to KAYA FC, a top club from the Philippines. Despite the heavy defeat, Coach Ramirez views these matches as valuable experience for her players: “Every moment like this strengthens us as we prepare for the AFC U17 tournament.”
Guam is recognized for good physicality and fighting spirit, though they lack experience. Meanwhile, with home advantage, thorough preparation, and strong ambition, Vietnam’s U17 women are expected to control the game and aim for a winning start, setting a foundation for their goal to reach the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship finals.
