Although under heavy pressure and the threat of Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, Manchester United’s management still disregards Thomas Tuchel, the former Chelsea coach who lifted the Champions League trophy.
Thomas Tuchel, the England national team manager, will not be considered by Manchester United for the head coach position at Old Trafford, even if Ruben Amorim is dismissed mid-season. According to The Sun, the German tactician is expected to remain with the Three Lions at least until after the 2026 World Cup and has no plans to leave his current role.
Previously, Tuchel was approached twice by Manchester United, especially when the club reviewed Erik ten Hag’s future in the summer of 2024. However, the Red Devils’ recruitment process left him unimpressed due to constant changes in decisions and prolonged evaluation of Ten Hag. Afterwards, Tuchel was appointed as England’s head coach and is fully committed to the World Cup qualifying campaign.
Throughout his coaching career, Thomas Tuchel has won numerous major titles, most notably the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League with Chelsea. This achievement has established him as one of the most talented and influential coaches in contemporary European football.
At Old Trafford, minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe and head of the Ineos group affirmed his continued trust in Ruben Amorim. In an interview with The Times, Ratcliffe stated: “Ruben needs at least three years to prove himself as a good coach. Football cannot be transformed overnight. We must be patient and steadfast with our long-term plan.”
Since taking charge of England, Tuchel has had an impressive start with five consecutive wins in World Cup qualifiers without conceding, along with six wins out of seven matches including friendlies. Nevertheless, he is still experimenting with the squad, as some stars like Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer have not been called up due to fitness concerns.
Despite his on-field success, Tuchel expressed disappointment over the subdued atmosphere at Wembley during the 3-0 victory against Wales, suggesting fans did not fully engage with the team.
Currently, Amorim’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain, but one thing is almost certain: Thomas Tuchel will not take the Red Devils’ bench this season.
