How impressive is Manchester United’s projected squad worth over half a billion pounds in 2026?

Manchester United’s promising £560 million squad for 2026 includes targets from Real Madrid and Sporting CP.

Will Manchester United field a powerhouse squad in 2026?

When Ruben Amorim took over at Manchester United, many anticipated he would breathe new life into the declining club. In fact, the recent victory over Sunderland – a Premier League newcomer – brought a rare excitement to fans at Old Trafford. However, the fact that such a win was greeted with “joy and relief” reveals the sad truth about the Red Devils’ current standing in 2025.

It used to be routine for MU to score multiple goals and keep a clean sheet against newly promoted teams, but this was only the third time Amorim has managed that during his reign.

Coach Ruben Amorim is facing significant pressure at MU.

In total, he has only achieved four Premier League victories against opponents who are not newcomers – a statistic that worries many fans. Still, the impressive debut of goalkeeper Senne Lammens, heavy investment in the attack, and the considerable development of young center-back Leny Yoro are signs that Manchester United has the foundation to improve gradually, rather than needing a full squad overhaul like before.

Naturally, an impressive display doesn’t mean the player will become a star. Romelu Lukaku once scored and impressed in his first game back at Chelsea against Arsenal, praised by Roy Keane as a “perfect £90 million signing,” but everyone knows how that ended. United understand this well – they know every new signing must be carefully evaluated.

Currently, Amorim’s squad is looking to add a left-footed center-back to complete the back three, find a right-back who can coordinate well with Patrick Dorgu – enabling Amad Diallo to return to his natural role – and secure a central midfielder to relieve Bruno Fernandes and help him regain his motivation. So, which names might help United revive, and what will their 2026 lineup look like?
