Barca receives bad news ahead of crucial matches in La Liga and the Champions League.

Another disappointing update for Barca as the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed that Ferran Torres is experiencing muscle overload and will miss Spain’s upcoming match against Bulgaria.

Barca loses Ferran Torres due to injury.

According to the official announcement from RFEF, the Barcelona forward felt discomfort in his muscles after the Spain vs. Georgia match last week. Medical checks showed muscle overload, but luckily no serious structural damage was detected.

The RFEF statement said: "Ferran Torres has been withdrawn from the squad for the Bulgaria match – the fourth game in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers held in Valladolid. After completing the game against Georgia in Elche, the FC Barcelona player reported muscle tightness. RFEF doctors examined him and carried out additional tests, confirming muscle overload without any anatomical injury."

Barca loses Ferran Torres due to injury.

"Since the Bulgaria match is very close, and prioritizing player health to avoid any unnecessary risk, Ferran Torres will be removed from the squad. All relevant information has been communicated to FC Barcelona’s medical staff," the statement clarified.

This is a worrying development for Barcelona, as the Catalan club is facing a series of injuries in their attacking lineup. Earlier, Dani Olmo had to withdraw from the Spain team due to a calf injury, and young talent Lamine Yamal also withdrew from La Roja’s call-up because of fitness concerns.

Ferran Torres’s absence adds to coach Xavi’s headaches in managing squad rotation early in the season. The 24-year-old has been one of Barcelona’s effective attacking options recently, often used flexibly on both wings and occasionally as a central striker.

It is still unclear how serious Ferran’s muscle overload is and whether he will recover in time to play in the Catalonia derby against Girona this weekend. Barcelona’s medical team will continue to monitor and evaluate his condition closely in the coming days before making a final decision.

Up to now, Barcelona has lost many key players in attack, and Ferran Torres’s temporary absence further increases the pressure on the team as they strive to defend their La Liga title and prepare for European competitions.
