Coach Masatada Ishii is confident in helping Thailand secure a positive outcome against Taiwan in the return match on October 14.
The 2-0 victory over Taiwan in the third match, combined with Turkmenistan’s unexpected loss to Sri Lanka, has unexpectedly revived Thailand’s chances of qualifying for the 2027 Asian Cup finals. Although currently in third place, the "War Elephants" have 6 points, equal to Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan, and will face the weakest team in the group, Taiwan, again in the fourth match on October 14.
On the afternoon of October 13 at the Taipei Municipal Stadium press room, the organizing committee held a press conference in preparation for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Group D’s fourth match between hosts Taiwan and visitors Thailand featured Thailand’s representatives including head coach Masatada Ishii and striker Theersak Peyapimai.
Head coach Masatada Ishii confidently stated: "We have already gained experience playing against Taiwan in the first leg. Thailand won that match. Our goal remains the same for this game. Whether playing at home or away, we need to improve ourselves more. If we perform poorly away, it’s the same against any opponent. I am working to fix what the Thai national team has not done well.
Regarding this match, I can’t say how it will differ from the others. However, I want to emphasize from the very first matches what needs improvement, and the Thai national team must perform better than before. From the start of the game to how we finish the match."
Meanwhile, Teerasak Poeiphimai is confident about the team’s preparation process: "We have completed our training sessions well since the first day of gathering. Tomorrow, Thailand will aim to secure all 3 points.
The team atmosphere improved immediately after the first leg when we earned 3 points at home. Personally, I feel a lot of pressure as the only striker, but I have received much support from my teammates and will strive to give my best for the Thai national team."
