Man United star spends over 500 billion VND building a house in Barca

Forward Marcus Rashford is struggling with a "nightmare" home-building project, having invested over 500 billion VND in a lavish villa in Barcelona, which still isn't completed after many years.

Marcus Rashford’s dream of a luxurious villa is turning into a “nightmare” as construction costs have escalated to £15 million (over 500 billion VND) and the project remains incomplete after 5 years.

According to The Sun, the English forward currently on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United began his “forever home” project in Cheshire back in 2020. Rashford bought the land for £2.25 million, but the construction has nearly come to a standstill.

Sources reveal the project was once stalled due to “financial disagreements” among the contractors. Rashford has asked his finance team to investigate the cause and find a way to complete the house as soon as possible. “Marcus has spent millions and may need to spend millions more. Progress is very slow, and he worries the house will never be worth the money invested,” The Sun quoted a close source as saying.

Originally, Rashford’s villa was planned to include 5 bedrooms, an indoor swimming pool, a private gym, a relaxation area, a guest apartment on the property, along with landscaped gardens and a wildlife sanctuary. However, the project has continuously faced difficulties due to flooding, rising costs, and design changes.

Not only Rashford, but neighbors are also frustrated with the prolonged construction. One neighbor shared: “Heavy machinery runs all day, the ground there is very muddy, and high groundwater levels make building extremely difficult. We’ve never seen Rashford here, but the costs are said to have reached millions of pounds.”

The construction company, Noble Projects, denies any issues and asserts the project “is progressing normally and ensuring quality”. Meanwhile, Rashford, earning £350,000 per week, cannot directly oversee the project as he is currently playing in Spain.

Nevertheless, British media reports that to complete the “dream villa,” Rashford will need to spend at least another £1 million annually just for maintenance and management of the land, a considerable cost even for a top Premier League star.
