Lionel Messi is at risk of having his 9.5 million Pounds villa in Ibiza forced to be torn down.
According to the ABC, Lionel Messi’s luxurious villa on Ibiza island is under threat of demolition due to legal complications. The Argentine superstar purchased this property from Swiss businessman Philippe Amon in 2022 for around 9.5 million Pounds, but since then, it has been involved in numerous disputes.
Sources indicate that the construction does not comply with building regulations, as the garage area and basement were built without the originally approved permits.
Messi’s villa is located in Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, on the western side of Ibiza, covering over 16,000 square meters with a 92-square-meter swimming pool. However, the property reportedly lacks a certificate of occupancy and the necessary administrative permits.
Notably, in 2022, the local mayor issued a ban preventing Messi from carrying out any further renovations there. Recently, the City Council initiated an investigation into unauthorized modifications, and if these are not regularized, partial demolition of the villa is a very real possibility.
Moreover, the villa has sparked environmental controversies as it is situated in a protected land area and classified as a “hazardous asset,” meaning it cannot be sold or rented out.
Last year, the environmental activist group Futuro Vegetal broke into Messi’s villa, spray-painting red and black on the walls and taking photos by the pool as a form of protest. In response, Messi filed a lawsuit demanding 50,000 Pounds in damages for property vandalism.
Lionel Messi is regarded as one of the greatest football players in history and holds the record for the most career trophies, totaling 46 cups. The Argentine superstar enjoyed glorious years both at club level and internationally, culminating in the emotional 2022 World Cup victory.
At 38 years old, Messi still holds an unprecedented record with eight Ballon d'Or awards, the highest in football history. His great rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, currently has five titles.
To date, El Pulga has scored 886 goals in 1,128 matches across all competitions and is closing in on the 900-goal milestone in his career. Besides his impressive scoring ability, Messi has also demonstrated influence with 398 assists for teammates at both club and international levels.
