Despite a commanding 5-1 victory over Laos in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, the atmosphere within Malaysian football remains unsettled.
The passionate Ultras Malaysia supporters, a symbol of Malaysian spirit for many years, have sent a strong message to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) following Malaysia’s recent win against Laos.
According to their official social media page, Ultras Malaysia stated that they did not celebrate by singing or dancing after the match, but instead spoke out to defend the honor of Malaysian football:
“After 90 minutes, we did not raise our voices in song as usual; rather, we wanted to emphasize our stance on the ongoing issue between FAM and FIFA. This is the time to protect the national football’s dignity with patriotism, not blind loyalty.”
The fan group clarified that they are not targeting or attacking any individual, but want FAM to take responsibility and clearly explain the case involving 7 naturalized players found by FIFA to have document violations.
“We have only one demand: all parties involved must come forward with a clear explanation. This is not just about football but also about honor.”
Ultras Malaysia stressed that silence cannot protect honor, and that the truth must be revealed with honesty and integrity: “Honor cannot be preserved through silence. It can only be safeguarded through transparency, without hiding mistakes or avoiding the public’s questions.”
This strong statement came just days after FAM officially filed an appeal to FIFA regarding the 350,000 CHF fine (equivalent to about 9 billion VND) and the 12-month suspension imposed on 7 naturalized players including Palmero, Garces, Holgado, Machuca, Figueiredo, Irazabal, and Hevel.
While the public awaits FIFA’s response, Ultras Malaysia urges all fans to remain vigilant and demands FAM to be transparent with information, as this is not only a football matter but also one of national pride.
On Southeast Asian football forums, many fans also agree with Ultras Malaysia’s message. They believe Malaysian football is at a historic crossroads, and only with transparency, fairness, and honesty can the national team regain the people’s trust.
Currently, the Malaysian fan community is eagerly awaiting the outcome of FAM’s appeal, which could determine the future of Malaysian football in the near term.
