Morocco has set a global record by winning 16 matches in a row, breaking Spain's previous record following their 1-0 win against Congo in the 2026 World Cup qualification.
Morocco achieved a world record with 16 straight wins, overtaking Spain’s record after defeating Congo 1-0 in the 2026 World Cup qualifying round.
The Moroccan national team continued their impressive form by beating Congo 1-0, thereby setting a new historic football record worldwide with 16 consecutive victories, surpassing Spain’s 15-win streak that stood for 16 years.
The match took place at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, concluding Morocco’s journey in the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup under coach Walid Regragui. Although they had already secured qualification, Morocco fielded a strong lineup, determined to maintain their perfect winning streak.
In the 63rd minute, striker Youssef En-Nesyri, the star player from Fenerbahce, scored the only goal, sealing a 1-0 win for Morocco. This result gave the North African team a perfect 24 points from 8 matches, topping Group E.
The win against Congo not only reaffirmed Morocco’s status as a top African team but also earned them a place in the world football record books. With 16 consecutive wins, coach Regragui’s squad officially surpassed Spain’s 15-match streak from the 2008/09 period.
Morocco has remained unbeaten since March 2024, when they drew 0-0 with Mauritania in a friendly. Since then, the team has gone 19 months undefeated, scoring 50 goals and conceding only 4, showcasing a defensive and offensive performance that many top teams admire.
After reaching this historic milestone, coach Walid Regragui stated that Morocco will not stop here. He revealed the team is negotiating to arrange a high-profile friendly match with Argentina, the current world champions, believing that facing top teams will help Morocco gain more experience and prepare optimally for the 2026 World Cup.
“We want to compete against the strongest teams worldwide. If we can’t face Argentina, we are ready to play against a team from Africa or Asia to experience different playing styles.”
With consistent performance, strong team spirit, and resilience proven since the 2022 World Cup, Morocco is establishing itself as the strongest representative of Africa and a formidable opponent for any team globally.
