Indonesian fans regret having to part ways early with Coach Kluivert

Indonesian fans expressed their views after the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) announced the firing of Coach Patrick Kluivert.

The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) officially announced the termination of Coach Patrick Kluivert and his entire coaching staff after the failure in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. After nearly a year with the team, the Dutch coach, who was once expected to lead Indonesia to the World Cup, had to say goodbye to the archipelago’s national team.

Shortly after the announcement, many Indonesian fans commented on the matter.

A fan named Rizal Mukhus expressed agreement with PSSI’s decision: "In the end, he was just fired. Why not keep Coach Shin Tae Yong, who clearly had to struggle from scratch with our football? Patrick Kluivert didn’t contribute much; I agree with this decision."

Another fan believed that Coach Patrick Kluivert was not suitable for Indonesian football: "He came with a big reputation, but the team lacked identity. Thanks, Kluivert, but Indonesia needs someone who understands us better."

A user named Devi Devon Haryanto suggested that the recent qualifying failures exhausted PSSI’s patience: "Two consecutive defeats in the fourth qualifying round cost Patrick Kluivert his job. Let’s see what the future holds."

Some other fans expressed regret. Under PSSI’s post, many comments said Kluivert was not given enough time to build a suitable tactical system. “You can’t expect miracles in such a short period. Indonesia has many new players, and he needed time. Our problem is impatience.”

During more than 10 months with the Indonesian team, Coach Kluivert left little impression. The former Dutch star achieved only 3 wins, 1 draw, and 4 losses in 8 official matches. Failing to reach the 2026 World Cup goal was the main reason behind PSSI’s decision to sack him.
