The Indonesian Football Association has confirmed the termination of contracts with two Dutch coaches, alongside Patrick Kluivert.
The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) officially announced on October 16 that it has ended contracts with the entire Dutch coaching staff.
“PSSI and the coaching staff of the Indonesian national teams have mutually agreed to terminate the contracts ahead of schedule through a bilateral agreement. This agreement was signed between PSSI and the coaching members, who previously had two-year contracts,” the statement clarified.
Accordingly, not only head coach Patrick Kluivert’s contract was terminated, but PSSI also ended its cooperation with Gerald Vanenburg, coach of the Indonesia U23 team, and Frank van Kempen, who led the U20 team.
Assistants such as Danny Landzaat, Alex Pastoor, and other members of the coaching staff will also leave their positions.
“This termination of cooperation was carried out by mutual consent after reviewing the internal situation and the long-term development direction of the national teams. Following this decision, the mentioned coaching group will no longer serve the Indonesian national teams at the senior, U23, and U20 levels,” PSSI stated.
“PSSI sincerely thanks the entire coaching staff for their contributions during their tenure. This is part of a comprehensive evaluation and restructuring process aimed at improving the quality of national football training and development,” the organization emphasized.
This decision was made less than a week after the Indonesian national team failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Previously, coach Vanenburg also failed to achieve the goal of leading the Indonesia U23 team to the 2026 AFC U23 Championship finals. He was appointed earlier this year to guide Indonesia’s youth squad to perform well in regional tournaments and the 33rd SEA Games.
However, the unimpressive results at the Southeast Asia U23 Championship and failure to advance in the AFC U23 qualifiers led to the 61-year-old coach losing trust from PSSI, resulting in a mutual agreement to end the contract. Meanwhile, coach Frank Van Kempen, who was only appointed in July, also could not avoid dismissal by PSSI.
