Indonesian media reports that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) maintains a composed attitude and does not appear worried even though Vietnam and Nepal have both filed complaints with FIFA regarding naturalized player matters.
CNN Indonesia reported that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) affirmed they are not unsettled by the simultaneous complaints filed by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) to FIFA, demanding the annulment of Malaysia’s victories in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
According to CNN Indonesia, the acting president of FAM, Mr. Mohd Yusoff Mahadi stated that the association is fully aware of Nepal’s protest submission and is currently in the process of appealing. Nevertheless, FAM remains calm and confident in facing allegations related to Malaysia’s use of seven ineligible naturalized players in the matches against Vietnam and Nepal.
“The case from Nepal is similar to Vietnam’s; both have lodged complaints with FIFA. However, our main focus right now is the appeal process. The outcome of the appeal will determine everything,” Mr. Yusoff shared with New Straits Times, as cited by CNN Indonesia.
The FAM leader emphasized that the association does not take the complaints from Vietnam and Nepal lightly, but all efforts are currently concentrated on protecting the rights of the Malaysian team. “We are not ignoring this issue, but our top priority is the appeal. If the appeal succeeds, all complaints will automatically be resolved,” he added.
Previously, FIFA sanctioned FAM along with seven Malaysian naturalized players accused of using fraudulent nationality documents during registration. If the appeal is unsuccessful, Malaysia could be stripped of their wins in the two matches against Vietnam and Nepal, resulting in a 3-0 victory awarded to their opponents according to AFC regulations.
Currently, FAM is awaiting the final decision from FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Indonesian media suggests this incident poses a significant “test” for Malaysian football regarding transparency in the player naturalization process.
