Mancini revealed that if Amolin is dismissed, he could take over as Manchester United’s coach! After a year without a job, he met Sir Jim Ratcliffe in France.

After securing a win against Sunderland, Ruben Amolin enjoyed a somewhat peaceful international break, yet the next defeat could put him at risk of losing his job again. English media revealed that ex-Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini mentioned to acquaintances that he could take over Manchester United if Amolin was fired.

Mancini was the first coach to lead Manchester City to a Premier League title, but the 60-year-old Italian has been unemployed since his dismissal from the Saudi Arabian national team a year ago. However, The Sun reports that Mancini remains highly confident in his abilities and has told those around him that he believes he has a strong chance if Manchester United changes managers.

It is reported that Mancini owns a residence in southern France and has met Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe at various social events. Earlier this month, some English fans traveling to Monaco for the Champions League even spotted Mancini in person.

Besides winning the Premier League with Manchester City, Mancini also coached Italy to victory in the 2020 European Championship, defeating England in the final. Of course, many find it hard to imagine him abandoning the blue jersey to don red and manage at Old Trafford.

Interestingly, throughout his career, Mancini has played for or managed teams typically wearing blue kits, such as Sampdoria, Lazio, Leicester City, Manchester City, and the Italian national team. The only exception is Galatasaray in the Turkish league, whose home jersey is red.

Mancini is definitely not the favorite to become Manchester United’s next manager; Crystal Palace’s coach Oliver Glasner holds that position. The 51-year-old Austrian has revealed he is currently negotiating his future with Crystal Palace. His contract expires at the end of this season, allowing him to join any club on a free transfer next summer, making him a prime candidate for top clubs looking for a new manager.

At Friday’s Premier League pre-match press conference, Glasner said: “We discuss these matters almost daily. It’s not that I have special demands or expectations; Crystal Palace genuinely wants to succeed and continue on this path of success, not just for the past 18 months. Our ongoing discussion is about how to best ensure we maintain this momentum. I haven’t found a final solution, nor has Steve Parish (Crystal Palace chairman), but we are exploring all possibilities and what we can do together.”

Regarding his future, Glasner stated: “It only makes sense to work together if we share common goals and visions; otherwise, success is impossible. In any organization, if two leaders have different visions, they will inevitably part ways and fail to achieve shared objectives. That is exactly what we are discussing. If we find a shared path and common goals—not for me personally but for Crystal Palace—we will reach an agreement; if not, talks will end.”

Although Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly stated he would give Amolin three years, the Manchester United coach himself admitted he cannot guarantee he will last that long. Next month marks his first year in charge, and according to Ratcliffe, he still has two years left, but if results don’t improve, Amolin believes he will be dismissed.

“Hearing such praise is truly comforting; he always says that to me, sometimes even after matches,” Amolin said. “However, you, I, and Sir Jim all understand that football doesn’t work like that. Even with the owner’s support, you cannot control the flow of the game, and results can change at any moment. The owner’s words help fans understand and that improvement takes time. Yet, I don’t like this because it creates the illusion that ‘we still have time to fix things,’ and I don’t want the club to think this way. I put more pressure on myself and the team because at a big club, you have to prove your worth every week.”
