Como – Juventus: Fabregas is Juventus' dream

Juventus arrived at Como troubled in both offense and defense, further burdened by the looming Champions League match against Real Madrid in a few days. However, there was also a strong craving for one particular figure: Cesc Fabregas.

While Juventus faltered under Thiago Motta and remain caught in a sequence of five consecutive draws during Igor Tudor’s tenure, Cesc Fabregas has consistently impressed at Como. The 1987-born coach has transformed the small, newly promoted club into a genuine Serie A phenomenon, not only due to admirable results but also because of fearless play and a distinct tactical identity. Fabregas is building a solid team founded on consistency and a modern philosophy, combining Spanish-style buildup play from the back with rapid transitions.

Fabregas is portrayed as a communication expert, someone who can "touch the hearts and minds of his players." The image of him gathering the entire squad into a circle on the pitch after an emotional 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in Serie A’s fourth round to deliver a passionate speech reveals a direct and intense leadership style. He demands the players to be "courageous" and to "play with personality," and they have answered that call with outstanding performances. Despite conceding early, Como dominated their opponents and secured a well-deserved victory with a decisive goal scored in the 4th minute of added time.

Fabregas represents exactly what Juventus wants for their stalled project.

Conversely, Igor Tudor is struggling to generate momentum following a series of draws. Juventus under his guidance lack inspirational flair and mental breakthroughs. While Fabregas continuously experiments and succeeds with flexible formations such as 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3, Tudor is still fumbling between 3-4-2-1 and backup options without creating smooth transitions. Fabregas enjoys absolute trust from the management with a long-term project and a massive transfer budget, while Tudor is under intense scrutiny after only three months into the season. If Juventus have a dream right now, it’s that Fabregas, not Tudor, is their head coach.

This weekend’s showdown will be a harsh test for Tudor and Juventus. It’s very likely to be yet another winless game, their sixth in succession. Como is playing with great confidence and often performs well against more experienced teams. Seven of the nine points they have this season came from matches against notable opponents: wins over Lazio and Fiorentina, and a draw at Atalanta away. Meanwhile, Juventus brings only insecurity to Como. Their attack remains frustratingly ineffective, while their defense is weakened after the serious injury to captain Gleison Bremer. Juventus also cannot afford to expend all their energy here as they have a crucial trip to Spain to face the powerhouse Real Madrid in a few days.

Will the difference in form and spirit outweigh the gap in reputation and squad value? It is highly probable that Juventus’ streak of draws will persist, or worse, conclude with a loss.
