Inter Milan extended their strong start to the season by winning 1-0 at Roma’s Olimpico in the key fixture of Serie A round 7, 2025/26. The young newcomer Ange-Yoan Bonny once again starred for the Nerazzurri — a player making headlines across Italy with his explosive form and a new club record.
The match was settled within six minutes when Nicolo Barella played a clever through ball to Bonny, who calmly finished with a diagonal shot past goalkeeper Mile Svilar to give Inter the lead. This early goal gave coach Cristian Chivu’s side a clear psychological edge, allowing them to control the pace and defend tightly against Roma’s intense pressure.
Although no further goals were scored, Inter maintained their solidity and discipline throughout. Henrikh Mkhitaryan almost doubled the lead in the 91st minute with a shot that struck the post after Davide Frattesi’s cross, but the 1-0 score was enough for the blue and black team to leave Rome with all three points.
Bonny scored the only goal for Inter
On the other hand, Roma — who were top of the table before the match — missed a key chance in the 59th minute when Artem Dovbyk headed over the bar in a potential equalizer. The defeat dropped Gasperini’s team to third place, level on points with Inter and Napoli but behind on goal difference.
This victory moved Inter to the top of Serie A with 15 points, ahead of Milan, Napoli, and Roma thanks to a better goal difference. It also marked their sixth consecutive win across all competitions, demonstrating a strong revival under coach Cristian Chivu.
However, the spotlight after the match was on Ange-Yoan Bonny. At 21 years old, the French striker is becoming the new sensation in Serie A. With his goal against Roma, he has scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists in just 7 matches — a record in Inter Milan’s history since Serie A returned to a 20-team format (2004/05 season). Previously, Bonny had exploded with 1 goal and 3 assists in the 4-1 victory over Cremonese, as well as scoring on his debut in Inter’s 5-0 win against Torino.
Meanwhile, Napoli unexpectedly lost 0-1 at Torino in round 7 of Serie A 2025/26. Despite being favorites and leading the table before the match, Antonio Conte’s team underperformed without two key players, Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay, due to injuries.
Napoli still featured stars like Kevin De Bruyne, Lorenzo Lucca, and David Neres. However, their attacking play was fragmented and lacked the usual sharpness. De Bruyne tried to lead the midfield, delivering many passes out wide to Spinazzola and Neres, but they couldn’t make a difference against the home side’s tight defense.
