Ruben Amorim reveals a 'secret strategy' that could help MU defeat Liverpool

Before the difficult trip to Anfield, manager Ruben Amorim called on Man Utd to adopt a combative style and implement long-ball tactics versus Liverpool.

Prior to the stormy journey to Anfield, coach Ruben Amorim sent a clear message to his players: “We must play more aggressively, prepared for a physical battle and long-ball football

The Portuguese strategist is striving to revive Manchester United after a series of inconsistent performances. Although he has been in charge of the “Red Devils” for nearly a year, Amorim has yet to lead the team to two consecutive Premier League wins, highlighting the instability he faces.

However, facing an in-form Liverpool, Amorim rejects a passive defensive approach and aims to follow the growing trend of “long-ball and aerial play” in England. He points out that Everton, Manchester City, and Thomas Tuchel’s England squad have all found success through direct play, minimizing complicated passing sequences.

“We have many strong players upfront. If we win the second ball, we can bypass complex build-up and create scoring chances immediately. We need to be more aggressive against Liverpool. It’s a match of willpower and strength,” Amorim stated during the pre-match press conference.

Besides encouraging players to launch long passes, Amorim places special emphasis on throw-ins and goal kicks. Statistics show that goals from set-pieces and throw-ins have risen significantly in this Premier League season, while 48.4% of goalkeepers’ goal kicks cross the halfway line.

Amorim also expressed confidence in newcomer Senne Lammens, the young Belgian goalkeeper known for his excellent two-footed ball control. “Lammens makes it difficult for opponents to press because he can handle the ball well with both feet. But he must always stay alert,” the Portuguese coach emphasized.

Amorim’s tactical shift previously helped Man United secure a 2-0 win over Sunderland, with Diogo Dalot repeatedly delivering powerful throw-ins into the box. Earlier, Benjamin Sesko’s flick-on header for Bryan Mbeumo caused Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez to receive a red card, paving the way for the “Red Devils’” crucial victory.

Nevertheless, these positive signs are not enough to ease concerns. Man United has not won any away Premier League matches since March and has never earned three points in the first game after an international break under Amorim.
