If there was any Liverpool player who was the most "unlucky" in the match against MU in the 8th round of the Premier League, it would definitely be Cody Gakpo.
Liverpool faced MU at home in Anfield during the 8th round of the Premier League aiming to stop a run of 3 consecutive losses in all competitions. After conceding an early goal by Mbeumo in the 2nd minute, "The Kop" exerted heavy pressure on MU’s goal but on an unlucky day, they were repeatedly denied scoring.
Notably, Dutch forward Cody Gakpo was denied by MU’s goal frame three times. First, in the 21st minute, receiving a perfectly timed pass from Salah, Gakpo dribbled past MU defenders to open up a very wide shooting angle.
Cody Gakpo’s shot struck MU’s goalpost early in the second half at Anfield.
Unfortunately, his placed shot hit the post while goalkeeper Lammens was completely helpless.
Shortly after, Gakpo had the ball inside MU’s penalty area and delivered a cross, but the ball deflected off Bruno Fernandes onto the crossbar of Lammens’ goal.
In the 50th minute, from a Liverpool attack on the right wing, the ball found Gakpo again. After Amad Diallo failed to clear, Gakpo controlled the ball very smoothly and took a technical shot, but once again he hit MU’s goalpost.
After three times being denied by MU’s crossbar and posts, in the 78th minute, Gakpo’s efforts were finally rewarded with a close-range finish into an open net to equalize 1-1 for Liverpool.
