After the win against Liverpool, Coach Ruben Amorim achieved a significant milestone he had hoped for since becoming Man Utd’s manager.
Manchester United caused a major upset by defeating the reigning Premier League champions Liverpool right at Anfield during the 8th round match.
With this result, Coach Ruben Amorim experienced his first back-to-back Premier League wins with the "Red Devils." Notably, since arriving at Old Trafford in November 2024, the Portuguese tactician endured 517 days (according to Sky Sports) before achieving this feat.
Additionally, the 40-year-old coach set another remarkable record. According to Opta, Ruben Amorim made history as the third manager to win both of his first two away Premier League games against reigning champions, following Manuel Pellegrini and Antonio Conte.
Last season, Amorim and his squad also staged an emotional comeback at Etihad, where the "Red Devils" defeated city rivals Man City, the 2023/24 champions.
After the win over Liverpool, Man Utd legend Gary Neville congratulated Amorim on this achievement and affirmed it would serve as a foundation for the Portuguese coach facing upcoming tough challenges.
Speaking on Sky Sports, the former England international said: "That was a fantastic moment for Ruben Amorim. He desperately needed a boost amid mounting pressure, and winning at Anfield holds tremendous significance. It’s a great venue for Man Utd to prove themselves.
Ahead lies a demanding period; Coach Amorim is under considerable pressure, but the team has demonstrated resilience. They must turn this victory into the start of a new journey."
Visiting Anfield, Man Utd surprisingly took the lead in the second minute through Bryan Mbeumo’s goal. After falling behind early, Liverpool pushed forward to increase pressure and seek an equalizer. Their efforts paid off in the 78th minute when Cody Gakpo scored, delighting the Anfield crowd. However, The Kop’s hopes were quickly dashed just minutes later as Harry Maguire’s towering header in the 84th minute sealed a dramatic 2-1 win for Man Utd.
This win lifts the Old Trafford side temporarily to 9th place on the table with 13 points, while Liverpool drops to 3rd with 15 points, four behind leaders Arsenal.
