Forward Bryan Mbeumo established a new milestone in the English derby clash between Liverpool and Manchester United.
Manchester United caused a major upset when they impressively defeated Liverpool at their home ground, Anfield in the Premier League Round 8 fixture.
Over nearly 100 minutes of play, Bryan Mbeumo was the standout figure with a goal scored in the 2nd minute, significantly contributing to securing three points for the "Red Devils". According to Opta, with this goal, Mbeumo became the fastest goal scorer in a Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield.
Notably, this is only the second time a goal has been scored within the first two minutes of a match between these two teams in England's top-flight league, the first being Nicky Butt's goal for Manchester United at Old Trafford in October 1995.
Regarding Mbeumo, including his goal against Liverpool, the Cameroon striker is currently the top contributor to away goals in the Premier League in 2025, with a total of 11 direct goal contributions (7 goals and 4 assists). This also marks his first away goal for Manchester United.
Although his start was not as expected, Mbeumo is gradually adapting quickly to coach Ruben Amorim's style of play. The 1999-born star scored his first official goal against Burnley and then continued to shine by assisting Mason Mount in the victory over Sunderland.
Up to now, the former Brentford player has scored two goals and provided one assist in 9 appearances for the "Red Devils," becoming a vital part of the team's attack.
Returning to the match events, after conceding early, Liverpool pushed forward aggressively to seek an equalizer. It was not until the 78th minute that The Kop fans had a reason to celebrate with Cody Gapo's goal. However, their joy was short-lived as Harry Maguire headed in at the 84th minute to secure a 2-1 win for Manchester United.
This result lifts the "Red Devils" to 9th place on the table with 13 points. Meanwhile, Liverpool drops to 3rd with 15 points, currently four points behind league leaders Arsenal.
