(Football result) - Real Madrid overcame Getafe 1-0 in the 9th round of La Liga 2025/26, regaining first place from Barcelona following a tough win.
In the early hours of October 20 (Vietnam time), Real Madrid traveled to Coliseum to face Getafe in the 9th round of La Liga 2025/26. Despite creating numerous chances, the "White Falcons" had to wait until the final minutes to secure a narrow 1-0 victory to reclaim the league lead.
Right after the kickoff, Real Madrid pushed their formation forward. Kylian Mbappé continuously troubled Getafe’s defense with his speed and finishing ability. In the 8th minute, the French striker had a chance to open the scoring from Rodrygo’s through ball but failed to beat goalkeeper David Soria. Getafe defended resolutely, while Xabi Alonso’s players struggled to finish. The first half ended goalless.

After the break, the pattern remained unchanged. Real maintained dominant possession but lacked cutting edge in the final third. Mbappé and Bellingham both missed clear opportunities. The turning point came in the 77th minute when Getafe substitute Nyom received a straight red card for an off-the-ball foul on Vinícius Jr. With a numerical advantage, Real Madrid accelerated their attack and just three minutes later, Guler delivered a precise through ball for Mbappé to spin and calmly finish past Soria, making it 1-0.
Near the end, Getafe’s difficulties increased as Sancris received a second yellow card and was sent off, leaving the team with nine players. Despite their efforts, they could not overturn the result. Goalkeeper Courtois made an excellent save in stoppage time to preserve Real’s win.

At the final whistle, Real Madrid took all 3 points to move to the top of the table with 24 points after 9 rounds, two points ahead of Barcelona. A tough match but enough for Xabi Alonso’s team to prove their status as La Liga title contenders this season.
