Coach Xabi Alonso insists that Real Madrid does not rely on Mbappe, despite recognizing the French player's significant contribution to the club's remarkable series of victories.
Following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, Coach Xabi Alonso openly shared his thoughts on his players' performances, especially the forward Vinícius Jr., who came off the bench and made a major impact, helping Real Madrid secure all three points.
“Vinícius made a huge difference. We talked this morning that he could be important whether starting or coming on as a substitute. And indeed, he brought dynamism, forced the opponent into fouls, and changed the game. The most important thing is that every player understands they can contribute to the team's victory,” Coach Alonso commented.
The Spanish coach was also asked whether Real Madrid is overly reliant on Kylian Mbappe, the star who has been scoring consistently in recent matches. However, Alonso tactfully denied this: “I don’t think so. Of course, we are pleased with Mbappe’s form; he decides matches with goals and attacking contributions. But other players also provide significant support. Football isn’t just about scoring goals, although goals do earn points.”
Xabi Alonso also admitted that the win over Getafe was not an emotionally or aesthetically impressive performance, but it demonstrated the team’s fighting spirit. “It was a tough match, full of pressure and not very entertaining. We prepared ourselves for an unattractive game, and that’s exactly what happened. But the important thing is that the team showed resilience and determination to win. From tomorrow, we will focus on the match against Juventus,” he said.
The victory against Getafe helps Real Madrid maintain their top position in La Liga, as Xabi Alonso increasingly demonstrates a tactical approach that emphasizes discipline, cohesion, and flexible squad rotation, enabling “Los Blancos” to progress confidently on all fronts.
