Coach Lee Won Jae will offer hands-on assistance to the Vietnam Women’s National Team throughout their training sessions in Hanoi, ahead of SEA Games 33.
The South Korean goalkeeping coach appeared at the first training session with Head Coach Mai Duc Chung and his team at the VFF Youth Football Training Center. According to Head Coach Mai Duc Chung, Mr. Lee Won Jae will directly assist the players in place of Coach Kim Hong:
“While Coach Kim Hong is busy leading Ho Chi Minh City Club in the AFC Champions League, we have the support of an assistant from the men’s team to help the women’s squad. He will stay with us until November 20 before returning to his duties with the men’s team. This support is very valuable,” revealed Coach Mai Duc Chung.
Lee Won Jae is a veteran South Korean goalkeeper who has represented his country at the World Cup. He was invited to be the goalkeeping coach for the Vietnam men’s national team starting from the ASEAN Cup 2024, significantly contributing to the "Golden Star Warriors" winning the championship and helping Dinh Trieu become the tournament’s best goalkeeper.
The presence of Coach Lee Won Jae promises to enhance the skills of Vietnamese women goalkeepers such as Tran Thi Kim Thanh, Khong Thi Hang, and Le Thi Thu, preparing them for the important upcoming tournament.
According to the plan, from November 20, the women’s team will travel to Japan for training and is expected to play three friendly matches against clubs arranged by the Japan Football Association that match the coaching staff’s technical objectives. After this training camp, the team will return to Ho Chi Minh City to acclimate to weather conditions similar to Thailand before heading to compete in SEA Games 33.
The Vietnam Women’s National Team aims to defend their gold medal at this tournament while also preparing long-term for international competitions in 2026.
