Arsenal kept their momentum going by defeating Atletico Madrid 4-0, breaking a historic Champions League record and leading ex-Chelsea player Jason Cundy to liken them to the 2004 "Invincibles" team.
Arsenal maintained their dominant form in the Champions League by thrashing Atletico Madrid 4-0 at the Emirates, becoming the first team ever to win seven consecutive matches against Spanish opponents in the competition's history.
After the match, Jason Cundy, a former Chelsea player who usually isn't fond of Arsenal, surprised fans by praising the opposition extensively. On talkSPORT, he said:
“The second half from Arsenal was truly spectacular. They scored in every way imaginable—from corners, counterattacks, to wing play. Four goals in 14 minutes is incredible. They are so good that even people who used to dislike them are now mesmerized.”
Not stopping there, Cundy also compared Arteta’s team to the 2004 "Invincibles": “This is the best Arsenal team since the era of Henry and Wenger. While the Invincibles amazed fans with their beautiful football, this team is strong, disciplined, and extremely effective at both ends of the pitch.”
Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara, who is a fan of Arsenal’s rivals, was also forced to admit: “They are genuinely very strong. Watching Arsenal now, I must say they are extremely impressive.”
After a tight first half, Mikel Arteta’s men blew away Diego Simeone’s renowned defense with four goals in just 14 minutes. Center-back Gabriel Magalhães opened the scoring with a precise header, followed by Gabriel Martinelli doubling the lead. Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres then shone with a brace, sealing Arsenal’s biggest European win this season.
Not only did Arsenal secure full points, but they also confirmed their status as serious contenders for the Champions League title. This marked their seventh consecutive victory over La Liga teams, a streak that includes wins against Real Madrid, Sevilla, Girona, Athletic Bilbao, and now Atletico Madrid.
Notably, Diego Simeone, known for his pragmatic style, also admitted: “Arsenal is the strongest team we have faced this season. They play with speed, discipline, and superior quality.”
With this win, Arsenal not only remain unbeaten in their first three Champions League matches but also top the Premier League and advance deep in the Carabao Cup, signaling a promising season ahead for the "Gunners".
