Amorim was wrong! Marcus Rashford sends a clear message to MU

Marcus Rashford stood out with two goals, playing a key role in Barcelona's 6-1 victory over Olympiakos in the Champions League, demonstrating his impressive performance under Hansi Flick's reign.

Marcus Rashford maintained his outstanding form for Barcelona by scoring twice, significantly contributing to the dominant 6-1 win at Camp Nou against Olympiakos on the early morning of October 22. The English striker joined Barca on loan from Manchester United during the summer transfer window and quickly adapted to Hansi Flick's system.

At Old Trafford, Rashford was completely sidelined under Ruben Amorim, dropped from the first team and forced to train with players no longer in the club’s plans. He was the first among them to leave Man Utd, fulfilling his wish to move by securing a loan deal with Barcelona until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Upon arriving in Catalonia, many viewed Rashford as merely a backup option, but he has exceeded all expectations. His brace against Olympiakos raised his tally to 5 goals and 5 assists in 12 matches across all competitions this season. With Robert Lewandowski injured and Ferran Torres on the bench, Flick deployed Rashford as the central striker, supported by the trio Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, and Dro Fernandez. While Lopez scored a hat-trick, it was Rashford’s two goals that truly startled Manchester United fans.

The 27-year-old forward won the penalty that allowed Yamal to make it 3-1 before scoring two more goals in the 74th and 79th minutes, capping off a spectacular performance. He has been involved in goals (scoring or assisting) in 8 of his last 9 games for Barcelona, highlighting his strong resurgence. Whereas at Aston Villa last season Rashford only briefly showcased his natural talent, under Flick’s guidance he is regaining his consistent form.

Coach Hansi Flick expressed great satisfaction with Rashford’s role as a striker, despite Amorim previously doubting his suitability for that position. “Marcus can play as a number 9 or number 11,” Flick confirmed. “What we value is his versatility. Rashford brings a lot of positives and can definitely play as a center forward.”

His performance early this morning proved that. Now, Rashford aims to maintain his brilliant form to both convince Barca to make his move permanent and impress coach Thomas Tuchel to secure a spot at the 2026 World Cup with the England national team.
