Liverpool dominated Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in the Champions League, breaking a run of four straight defeats, yet the triumph for "The Reds" was marred by injuries to Isak and Frimpong.
Liverpool made an impressive comeback in the 2025/26 Champions League by thrashing Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 on German soil, halting a four-game losing streak. However, the joy was tempered as two pricey new signings, Alexander Isak and Jeremie Frimpong, both sustained injuries forcing early exits.
During the match at Deutsche Bank Park, Liverpool started energetically with goals from Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Hugo Ekitike, who scored against his former club. Despite the overwhelming win, coach Arne Slot expressed concern when striker Isak, a record £125 million signing, had to leave the pitch after the first half due to a groin injury.
After the match, the Dutch coach told TNT Sports: “Isak feels a groin strain and we don’t want to take any risks. He missed most of the preseason with Newcastle, so managing his playing time is tricky. We are trying to bring Isak back gradually, but three months without playing makes things sensitive. Hopefully, he will be okay.”
Not only Isak, Liverpool also received bad news as Jeremie Frimpong left the field just 18 minutes into the game due to a hamstring injury. The Dutch playerhad faced similar issues before and had only recently returned to play a few weeks ago. “Frimpong has relapsed with his old hamstring problem. He had just recovered, played one international match, and then got injured again. It’s really unfortunate,” Slot admitted.
The 5-1 victory helped Liverpool temporarily relieve pressure after a poor run of results and strengthened fans’ confidence in Arne Slot’s leadership. However, with two key attackers injured, the squad selection challenge at Anfield remains a serious concern.
