Bayern Munich achieved a 4-0 win against Club Brugge in the Champions League, yet the focus was on the witty interaction between coach Vincent Kompany and the promising youngster Lennart Karl.
In the early hours of October 23rd, Bayern Munich demonstrated overwhelming strength by defeating Club Brugge 4-0 in the Champions League. This win not only solidified the "Red Giants" position in the group stage but also marked a historic milestone for young star Lennart Karl, who, at just 17 years and 242 days old, became the youngest German player to score in Europe’s most prestigious tournament. It was also Karl’s first Champions League goal for Bayern Munich, making him the youngest player in the club’s history to score at this level.
After the match, coach Vincent Kompany was humorously questioned by DAZN reporter Max Siebald: “What were you doing at 17 or 18 years old? Were you as good as him back then?”
The former defender, who played for Hamburg and Manchester City, replied confidently: “Champions League and the national team. Always starting!” This answer made Siebald laugh and respond: “That’s quite a boast!”, and both of them burst into laughter, while expert Tobias Schweinsteiger couldn’t hide his joy either.
In fact, Kompany debuted for Belgium’s national team at just 17 years old in a friendly against France on February 18, 2004. The Bayern coach then continued to share more about his talented pupil: “At this level, that’s extraordinary. But I’m not one for exaggeration, which Karl will surely face. I support structured development and staying calm.”
Kompany also praised his student: “He played well today. Everyone knows Karl can score. The important thing is that in a big match like this, he proved he can contribute to the team.”
This Champions League victory helps Bayern maintain their impressive form under Kompany, while Lennart Karl’s performance raises hopes for a new star in the attack. Can this 17-year-old talent sustain his form to secure a place in the “Red Giants” squad?
