The Vietnam national team is about to learn their opponents for the 2026 Asian Championship.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) is preparing to conduct the group draw for the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026 at the AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at 2:00 PM on November 5.

The 2026 Asian Futsal Championship will be hosted in Jakarta from January 27 to February 7, 2026, featuring 16 teams that have secured their spots in the final tournament.

Iraq became the leader of Group D after a 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia, concluding the qualifying campaign with a perfect record of three victories.

Saudi Arabia also rejoiced as they qualified for the next stage as one of the seven best second-placed teams.

Vietnam is placed in the second seed group for the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship draw.

These two teams will join Australia (Group A winners), Thailand (Group B), Japan — four-time champions (Group C), Vietnam (Group E), Kyrgyzstan (Group F), reigning champions and 13-time titleholders Iran (Group G), Afghanistan (Group H), and host Indonesia at the draw event on November 5.

The other six teams advancing as the best runners-up are Kuwait (Group A), South Korea (Group B), Tajikistan (Group C), Lebanon (Group E), Uzbekistan (Group F), and Malaysia (Group G).

The seedings were determined based on the October FIFA futsal rankings. Specifically, the groups were divided as follows:

Pot 1: Indonesia (host), Iran (ranked 5), Thailand (11), Japan (13)

Pot 2: Uzbekistan (19), Vietnam (26), Afghanistan (33), Iraq (41)

Pot 3: Kuwait (43), Tajikistan (46), Saudi Arabia (48), Kyrgyzstan (49)

Pot 4: Australia (53), Lebanon (54), South Korea (73), Malaysia (81)

During the group stage, teams will compete to secure first and second place in each group to advance to the knockout rounds. The live stream link for the draw will be announced later.

For the rest of 2025, the Vietnam futsal team will focus on the 2025 SEA Games held in December. Afterwards, the team will continue preparations for the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship in Indonesia from January 27 to February 7, 2026, featuring the continent’s top 16 teams.

By securing qualification for the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship finals, the Vietnam futsal team becomes the fourth Vietnamese football team to participate in a continental final tournament in 2026, following the women’s team, the men’s U23, and the women’s U20 teams.
