Coach Vu Hong Viet leaves the head coach role at Thep Xanh Nam Dinh Club to assume the position of Technical Director, opening a fresh phase in his coaching journey.
Following a 1-3 defeat against Gamba Osaka in the AFC Champions League 2025/26 group stage, Coach Vu Hong Viet resigned as head coach of Thep Xanh Nam Dinh. On the afternoon of October 24, the club's management officially appointed Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien as head coach, while Mr. Vu Hong Viet took over as the club’s Technical Director.
This transition marks a significant turning point in the career of the 1979-born strategist. Although stepping down from coaching duties, Coach Vu Hong Viet continues to be involved with the club that shaped his reputation, now in a new capacity as the architect of long-term strategy and development for Nam Dinh.
As Technical Director, he will be responsible for guiding the club’s technical direction, developing the football philosophy, and supporting the youth coaching staff in training and player development. This key position aims to strengthen the club’s foundation and promote long-term stability after a period of performance decline.
In the past three seasons, Coach Vu Hong Viet has led the most brilliant era in Thep Xanh Nam Dinh’s history. Under his leadership, the team won two consecutive V.League titles (2023/24, 2024/25) and a National Super Cup, restoring Nam Dinh’s status as a major force in Vietnamese football.
By the end of the 2024/25 season, he had led Nam Dinh in 100 matches, achieving 52 wins, 22 draws, and was honored as the best coach of V.League 2023/24. These accomplishments highlight Vu Hong Viet’s strong imprint on the bench and his crucial role in the club’s success.
Despite Nam Dinh currently experiencing a 5-match winless streak and falling to 10th place in the V.League 2025/26 standings, Vu Hong Viet’s presence as Technical Director is expected to stabilize the team’s system, clarify strategic direction, and gradually bring them back into the championship race in the upcoming rounds.
