Thailand triumphs with an 11-0 victory over Saudi Arabia at the Asian tournament

The Thailand U16 squad demonstrated overwhelming strength against Saudi Arabia in their first Group B match at the 2025 Asian Youth Games.

Recently, Thailand’s U16 futsal team played their opening match in Group B of the 2025 Asian Youth Games. Facing Saudi Arabia, a team not highly rated in futsal, coach Eloy Alonso’s squad displayed remarkable superiority.

This was clearly shown when the young Thai players scored four consecutive goals in the first half through Narawit Srisuwan, Thanaphop Sunet, Punno Wangsillapakhun, and Ratthawit Sriraksa.

In the second half, the Southeast Asian representatives continued to impress with seven more goals scored by Thanaphop Sunet (25th minute), Punno Wangsillapakhun (26th and 38th minutes), Boonrit Phetthiam (27th minute), Teeraphat Wongkrit (33rd minute), an own goal by Mujahid Ali Sumaili (34th minute), and Jirawat Sangsom (36th minute). Ultimately, Thailand U16 secured a resounding 11-0 win over Saudi Arabia.

Following the initial victory, coach Eloy Alonso praised his players for their outstanding performance and emphasized that the upcoming match against Kyrgyzstan will be decisive for securing a semifinal spot.

The Spanish tactician commented: "We had an excellent match. I’m truly pleased with the entire team, as the players executed the spirit and tactics we prepared. The first game of the tournament always comes with challenges, but today the players stayed focused and played seriously against a tough opponent.

What pleased me most is that every player got playing time and performed well. Rotating the squad helped us preserve energy for tomorrow’s match against Kyrgyzstan. They are a strong team with great fitness, so this match will feel like an early ‘semi-final.’ A win would almost guarantee our progression from the group stage.

We will keep working hard, stay focused, and take it step by step. For the whole team, the match against Kyrgyzstan is like our final."

With this result, Thailand U16 currently leads Group B with three points and a +11 goal difference, slightly ahead of Iran, who defeated Kyrgyzstan 5-1. In the second round, Thailand U16 will face Kyrgyzstan, seen as the perfect chance for the Southeast Asian team to secure an early semifinal berth.
