Two former Manchester players scored as Napoli defeated Inter to reclaim the top spot in Serie A.

Kevin De Bruyne, Scott McTominay, and Frank Anguissa all scored to help Napoli secure a remarkable 3-1 win over Inter Milan, reclaiming the Serie A top position on a fiery night at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.

Napoli 3-1 Inter: A dramatic victory

Napoli delivered a perfect comeback after a disappointing run by defeating direct rivals Inter Milan 3-1, convincingly reclaiming the Serie A lead.

From the early minutes, Inter showed more threat with Alessandro Bastoni’s header narrowly missing the post and Lautaro Martínez forcing goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic into a fine save.

However, the turning point arrived in the 23rd minute when Henrikh Mkhitaryan fouled Giovanni Di Lorenzo inside the penalty area. Kevin De Bruyne, the former Man City star, calmly converted the penalty to put Napoli ahead 1-0.

Nevertheless, the Belgian midfielder’s happiness was short-lived. He immediately grabbed his right thigh and had to be helped off the field by medical staff, causing worry among Napoli supporters.

Inter then pressed hard and nearly equalized when Bastoni struck the crossbar and Denzel Dumfries hit the post in the closing moments of the first half.

Scott McTominay shone with a spectacular goal in Napoli’s victory.

After the break, Napoli looked more efficient. In the 54th minute, Leonardo Spinazzola played a perfect through ball to former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, who broke the offside trap and fired a sharp angled shot to make it 2-0. This was the Scottish midfielder’s third goal in a week, following his double against PSV in the Champions League.

Just five minutes later, Inter were awarded a penalty after Alessandro Buongiorno handled the ball inside the box following Lautaro Martínez’s header. Hakan Çalhanoğlu calmly scored, narrowing the gap to 1-2.

However, Inter’s hopes were quickly extinguished. In the 67th minute, Frank Anguissa made a powerful solo run before shooting past goalkeeper Yann Sommer to secure a 3-1 win for Napoli.
