Messi provides a motivational boost that elevates Inter Miami's performance

Inter Miami kicked off their 2025 MLS play-off journey on a high note by beating Nashville SC 3-1 in the opening match, with Lionel Messi continuing to be the focal point.

Midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, Messi’s longtime teammate on the Argentina national team, affirmed that Messi’s commitment to Inter Miami has brought a special motivation to the whole squad. De Paul commented after the match: “Knowing that we will be playing alongside him for several more years gives everyone extra drive. We just need to keep enjoying every moment with him.”

The Argentina star also praised his senior teammate: “It’s a joy to witness what he is doing. There will never be another player like Leo. Playing with him every week is an invaluable advantage.”

Before the match, Inter Miami fans were worried when Messi missed a training session due to a back issue. However, coach Javier Mascherano quickly reassured that the situation was not serious, and Messi’s brilliant performance was the clearest proof.

The Argentine coach revealed: “The club and Leo reached an agreement a long time ago. We chose to announce it before the play-offs so the team could focus on the competition. Even before the announcement, everything was settled.”

Coach Mascherano admitted the team faced some difficulties in the early phase of the match, especially with high pressing. However, after tactical adjustments, Inter Miami quickly regained control.
