Carragher points out the threat that makes it difficult for Arsenal to win the Premier League

Arsenal sits atop the 2025/26 Premier League standings and shows strong stability, yet ex-defender Jamie Carragher believes there are still numerous obstacles awaiting Arteta’s squad.

Despite being affected by numerous injuries since the start of the season, Arteta’s team, boasting impressive squad depth, continues to perform well. Recently, former star Jamie Carragher shared his view on the biggest rival that could stop Arsenal from claiming the title this season — stating that Man City, with their key player Erling Haaland, will pose a real challenge for Arteta’s side in the Premier League title race.

Carragher’s opinion is as follows: "Arsenal entered the season worried that Liverpool would again be the biggest obstacle in ending their 21-year wait for a Premier League trophy. However, now the greatest threat seems to be Man City’s Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian forward is the main reason Pep Guardiola and Man City still have strong chances to reclaim dominance in the Premier League. Without Haaland, City’s realistic goal this season might only be a top-four finish. I maintain my view that Haaland is the greatest goalscorer English football has ever witnessed.

Usually, a title-contending team relying too heavily on one player is a warning sign. But with Guardiola, it’s a blessing. Haaland can make a difference at any moment, and he is the perfect striker of this generation, worthy of comparison with the greatest legends.".

Carragher compares Haaland to Thierry Henry and Ian Rush — legends who combined trophies with remarkable scoring rates. He also notes that Haaland has surpassed famous strikers like Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker, and Harry Kane, who scored many goals but lacked collective honors.

Haaland has been in excellent form since the season began, netting 15 goals in 11 matches for Man City, including 11 in the Premier League and 4 in the Champions League. The Norwegian striker recently matched Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of scoring in 12 consecutive games.
