Coach Ruben Amorim disclosed that MU's versatile defender Luke Shaw is battling a virus, which led to his substitution by promising youngster Ayden Heaven during the win against Brighton in the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Luke Shaw played 65 minutes in the match against Brighton and performed well as the left-sided center-back in MU's back three. He contributed to MU's third goal with intense pressing. However, Shaw was also beaten a few times by Yankuba Minteh and nearly caused trouble for his team. Meanwhile, Heaven showed composure and resilience after coming on. Additionally, the youngster signed from Arsenal provided a perfect through ball for Mbeumo to break free and score, sealing MU’s 4-2 victory.
Coach Ruben Amorim revealed that MU defender Luke Shaw is fighting an unspecified virus but confirmed Shaw will be fully fit for MU’s next match against Nottingham Forest on November 1st.
The Portuguese manager commented: "Luke Shaw contracted a virus this week. He faced some difficulties during the match but managed to overcome them. Shaw’s condition is stable, and he will be ready for the upcoming game.”
Amorim also described Bryan Mbeumo as a "machine" after the summer signing scored twice in the win over Brighton. About the Cameroon player, Amorim shared:"He is truly a machine. He excels in transitions. Right now, Mbeumo is outstanding in the attacking third. Moreover, Bryan Mbeumo has developed great chemistry with Amad Diallo. It’s really tough to beat these two, as they constantly swap positions, are quick, and highly skilled in one-on-one situations.”
Meanwhile, newcomer Mbeumo expressed his joy after scoring to help MU secure the victory: “I really enjoy life here. The beginning wasn’t easy. This is a new environment with new expectations, but I think things are going in the right direction. Effort, unity, and efficiency are helping us achieve positive results. MU will strive to stick to the plan and perform at their best.”
The win over Brighton not only ended MU’s losing streak against this club at Old Trafford but also boosted confidence for Coach Ruben Amorim’s squad, placing them in the Premier League top 4 after 9 rounds.
