Real Madrid and Barcelona have jointly made history in the iconic El Clasico by setting a special record.
According to The Guardian, the recent El Clasico went down in history as the first time two English players started on opposite sides in the match.
Specifically, Marcus Rashford played for Barcelona, while Jude Bellingham featured for Real Madrid, marking a significant milestone in the over century-old Spanish derby. Trent Alexander-Arnold could have further extended this record if he had not been on the bench for Real due to ongoing recovery from a hamstring injury sustained in mid-September.
Jude Bellingham represents the new generation at Real Madrid. After recovering from a shoulder injury, the English midfielder returned strongly with three consecutive starts. On the other side, Marcus Rashford has been the standout performer in Barcelona’s attack, scoring five goals and providing five assists.
Historically, Real Madrid has been a common destination for English stars, especially in the early 21st century with players like David Beckham, Steve McManaman, Michael Owen, and Jonathan Woodgate.
In contrast, Barcelona rarely signed English players, with Rashford being the first since Gary Lineker in 1986. In fact, the connection between English players and these two clubs dates back to their first encounter in 1902, when Real was still known as Madrid FC.
In the recent El Clasico, Jude Bellingham made a significant impact with a goal and an assist, playing a key role in Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory. Meanwhile, Rashford also worked hard and assisted Fermin Lopez’s goal. However, that effort was not enough for Blaugrana to secure at least a point at Bernabeu.
Thanks to this victory, Los Blancos maintained their firm hold on the top spot in La Liga and extended their lead over Barcelona to five points.
