Although he assisted a goal and worked hard in his debut El Clasico, Marcus Rashford was criticized by Spanish media for failing to leave a powerful mark.
Even with a solid performance in his first El Clasico, Marcus Rashford couldn’t escape criticism from the Spanish press after Barcelona’s 1-2 defeat to Real Madrid.
Mundo Deportivo was particularly harsh in their assessment: “The clever assist to Fermin cannot hide a game where Rashford appeared ineffective. He had moments of space to threaten but failed to capitalize. When pushed into the number 9 role, he performed even worse than when playing on the wing.”
Similarly, AS, a leading Spanish sports daily, acknowledged Rashford’s effort but judged him as “lacking the explosive impact expected from a top attacking star.” The article stated: “The Englishman started well in his first Clasico, but his pressing efforts were insufficient to make a significant difference for Barcelona.”
Other opinions from Madrid media suggested Rashford “has yet to fully integrate into the technical style of La Liga,” emphasizing he needs “greater finishing threat” in his final actions.
Rashford was the main highlight for Barcelona in the first half: a smart burst down the left flank before setting up Fermin Lopez to equalize at 1-1 in the 38th minute.
That assist not only showcased Rashford’s speed and tactical vision but also proved his rapid adaptation to Barcelona’s colors, where he is currently on loan from Manchester United.
However, despite marking the team’s only goal, the English striker became the focus of criticism from the Spanish media.
With his current form, Rashford shows he deserves more time, as beneath the criticism, one can see a player gradually rediscovering his killer instinct at Camp Nou.
