Coach Kompany Speaks Out in Defense of Nicolas Jackson

Coach Vincent Kompany has expressed his complete satisfaction with Nicolas Jackson's performance, despite the forward not having made a significant impact in terms of goals since joining Bayern Munich on loan from Chelsea.

Since the start of the season, Jackson has scored only 2 goals and provided 1 assist in 10 appearances across all competitions. Notably, all his goals came in the Champions League, against Pafos FC and Club Brugge, teams considered weaker compared to the general European standard. He has only started 4 matches, playing a total of 359 minutes, mostly serving as a substitute behind superstar Harry Kane.

However, Coach Vincent Kompany does not judge the situation solely based on goal statistics. During the press conference ahead of the match against Bayer Leverkusen, the Belgian tactician praised Jackson’s attitude and ability to integrate:

“He is working very well. We talked about the adaptation process, and I believe he has integrated very quickly. The media might not see it that way, but for me, Jackson played very well in the first half against Dortmund and also against Pafos. He understands how the team operates and always tries to fulfill his role properly.”

Kompany also acknowledged the pressure on a striker, a position often judged only by goal tallies. But in his view, football is more than that:

“He is a striker. When he scores, everyone praises him. But when he doesn’t, does that mean he played poorly? I don’t see football like that. We are happy to have Jackson in the squad, and I believe he will become increasingly important this season. Regarding his playing style, he is on the right track. The rest will come.”

Kompany’s remarks show he still places great confidence in the 24-year-old forward, who is seen as a strategic backup option for Harry Kane in a season where Bayern Munich carries high expectations after an explosive start with 14 consecutive wins across all competitions.
