Trent reveals learning Spanish, the truth that surprises Liverpool fans

Trent Alexander-Arnold recently revealed precisely when he started learning Spanish, disproving the speculation that he had been getting ready well in advance for his transfer to Real Madrid.

The English defender joined the Spanish royal club last summer after his contract with Liverpool ended. During his official debut at the Bernabéu, Alexander-Arnold surprised many by speaking Spanish almost fluently. This led many Liverpool supporters to believe he had studied the language long ago in preparation for his new club.

However, in a video posted on social media, the 27-year-old player clarified everything: “Hello, I’m Trent. I started learning Spanish with Ms. Sara in May. Before that, I didn’t know any Spanish at all. I wanted to learn to communicate better with teammates, coaches, and Real Madrid fans, as well as to adapt to the culture here. The lessons focused on football, helping me understand and use vocabulary for press conferences, interviews, and locker room conversations.”

His Spanish teacher, Ms. Sara, also shared about Alexander-Arnold’s dedicated learning journey: “It only took a few months, but it wasn’t an easy path. Trent started from zero, accepted mistakes, and persevered daily. When he stands on stage speaking Spanish with confidence and sincerity, it’s not just fluency; it’s respect, courage, and a strong desire to integrate.”

She emphasized that in football, language is not just a means of communication but also a bridge of trust and identity. “This is the image of a true professional footballer,” she wrote.

Currently, Alexander-Arnold is gradually regaining his form after a slow start at Real Madrid due to injury. He has only appeared in five matches across all competitions and recently returned to the squad in last weekend’s El Clásico. With Dani Carvajal injured, the English defender may get a starting opportunity from coach Xabi Alonso in the upcoming match.

The highly anticipated match between Liverpool and Real Madrid at Anfield on November 4 promises to be a special occasion for Alexander-Arnold to reunite with his former club, where he was a symbol of the golden generation under Jurgen Klopp.
